WIP Wednesday: Tarn Rug

It's Work-In-Progress Wednesday, and I've been working on this t-shirt yarn rug for the past week. At the moment, it has about 3-1/2 turtleneck shirts crocheted into it, with probably 5 more to go. It's 32" wide and 13" long. I hope it doesn't turn out to be too big for frequent washing and drying. I might have to rethink the dimensions for easier washing--maybe rotate it, so the 32" is the length, and keep going until it's just 24" long. Have to think about it.

Last week I posted some notes on how I'm making it.

UPDATE: After looking at this photo, I realized that there was a mistake about halfway up. Most of the time, I just keep going after a mistake because it doesn't usually show. However, this one is on the edge (left edge stairstep from forgetting the ch1 at the start of the row). It would always show and always bother me, so I frogged back. Now I will be more careful. Argh.

  1. I simply LOVE that you are recycling and making something useful.

My daughter and I found a way to make t-shirt rugs using a hula hoop! we are saving up some old t's to make a few with. :) I will post pics and blog all about it when we do it. We will probably have to hit up the goodwill for some cheap ones soon because we are both dieing to make them!

  2. I just cut up 2 old t shirts into yarn. I also want to make a rug. I need to find more t shirts to cut up first.

  3. Crystal--how on Earth do you do that??

  4. Crafty--good luck collecting t-shirts. It takes a lot, especially if you only use the seamless body section of each. Did you cut into the tops of the 2 you have already done?

  5. I really like how the stripes are lining up!
I wish I'd thought to do this before throwing out so many of my hubby's old (too large) t-shirts.
Anyway, I'm sorry to hear you've since had to frog some of it. :( Better to do that now than have a FO you'll always look at *right* where there was a mistake.
