Knit, Crochet, Crafts Books

These are my favorite books about crafts: knitting, crocheting, quilting, needlework, and other crafts.  I own most of them, have used them all, and recommend them highly.  If you click on a book, you'll get the Amazon information page.

Knitting
At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much
by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (The Yarn Harlot)
Great one-page musings from the mind of an avid knitter.
Viking Patterns for Knitting: Inspiration and Projects for Today's Knitter
by Elsebeth Lavold
This is a classic for those of us who love Viking/Celtic designs (Celtic knots came from Vikings!). Elsebeth Lavold's cable and border designs are exquisite, as well as the many lovely sweater and hat patterns. Read more here.
Stitch 'n Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook
by Debbie Stoller
Some of the cutest, funnest patterns I've seen (and made).
The Knitting Stitch & Motif Directory
by Sue Pearce
A great collection of knit stitches and charted motifs, in a handy little spiral-bound book.
The Wise Handbook of Knitting and Crocheting
by Miriam Morrison Peake
My go-to knit and crochet book. The many stitches and patterns are classic, interesting, and clearly explained. Read more here.
Crochet
Crochet and Creative Design
by Annette Feldman
Bunches and bunches of crochet stitches, motifs, edgings, and corners. Includes Tunisian and filet crochet. An excellent book.
The Wise Handbook of Knitting and Crocheting
by Miriam Morrison Peake
My go-to knit and crochet book. The many stitches and patterns are classic, interesting, and clearly explained--every bit as much for crochet as for knitting. Read more here.
Quilting
Lap Quilting with Georgia Bonesteel
by Georgia Bonesteel
I love lap quilting! It works with both hand and machine quilting. Once I tried this, I became a convert--never to go back to regular quilting. Read more here.
The Complete Book of Machine Quilting Second Edition
by Robbie & Tony Fanning
An excellent book explaining the ins and outs of quilting with a sewing machine, plus some great projects.

General Needlework
The Complete Book of Needlecraft
by Janet Kirkwood
A super compendium of how-to instructions, stitches, and projects for sewing, embroidery, knitting, and crochet. I'll admit it--I'm a stitch junkie. I love these books with bunches of stitches pictured and explained.
Complete Guide to Needlework (Reader's Digest)
by Virginia Colton
Another collection of how-to instructions, stitches, and projects for even more crafts: embroidery, needlepoint, appliqué, patchwork, quilting, knitting, crochet, lace, macramé, and rug-making.
General Crafts
Tasha Tudor's Heirloom Crafts
by Tovah Martin, Richard Brown
Exquisite home crafts by artist, Tasha Tudor. Read more here.
